Getting Started
How is Coaching Different from Clinical Psychotherapy?
This is a critical distinction for anyone I am working with as a life coach, because I also work as a mental health professional. It must be understood clearly that life coaching is not therapy. It is both unethical and illegal for me to operate in both capacities as a coach and therapist simultaneously. Though coaching with me may focus heavily on life purpose, meaningful experiences, personality features, spiritual content, and relationship dynamics, this work is not a substitute for appropriate clinical mental health care. Though I may work with clients with clinical diagnoses, life coaching is not designed to diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Acute mental health issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, suicidality, trauma, personality disorders, mood disorders, or addictions are conditions which cannot be addressed through spiritual life coaching and must be referred to a qualified clinician who is not myself. Ideally, it is best if my coaching clients are concurrently working with a separate therapist who can give adequate support if needed.
Questionnaire & Consultation
Before beginning the coaching relationship, I often utilize a screening process to identify appropriate coaching candidates using a questionnaire inquiring about yourself, your history, your needs, and your goals. If it is clear from the results of the questionnaire that spiritual coaching with me may be right for you, I will invite you to a free consultation call so that we can get to know each other, clarify goals, and negotiate fees and meeting times. Once we have agreed to begin our coaching journey together, I will send consent forms for signature and we will begin! If you want to get a jump start on your questionnaire, you can access the form here.
Format of the Work
Please note: At this time, I am offering life coaching sessions and consultations only over Zoom, but I may offer in-person sessions in future. I offer coaching sessions in 60-minute and 90-minute format. From session to session, clients may engage in exercises and/or reading assignments to enhance understanding and prepare for future sessions. Part of this process is understanding that life ebbs and flows in its activities, so I am happy to work at your pace. As your coach, I am committed to ensuring a long and mutually beneficial relationship by honoring your life commitments and priorities.
